President-elect John Dramani Mahama has officially met with outgoing President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to inaugurate Ghana’s 2024 National Transition Team, marking a key step in the nation’s democratic journey.
The meeting took place on Wednesday, December 11, at the Jubilee House in Accra, symbolizing the beginning of a structured and peaceful transfer of power from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration to the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
The National Transition Team, a constitutionally mandated body, is tasked with facilitating the handover process. Its responsibilities include briefing the incoming administration on crucial state matters, providing access to key government data, and organizing the formal inauguration of the President-elect.
This collaboration between outgoing and incoming leaders highlights Ghana’s reputation for democratic maturity and governance continuity. Speaking during the event, President-elect Mahama reiterated his commitment to unity and stability as the NDC prepares to govern.
“Mr. President has given me a brief on the security situation, both internal and external, and also a short brief on issues having to do with the economy. The transitional teams will drill down further into these matters, and we are going to work together in the interest of Ghana to ensure a seamless transition,” he stated.
Outgoing President Akufo-Addo echoed these sentiments, pledging his support for a smooth transition process.
“I assure him [John Dramani Mahama] of my full support and that of my government over the transitional process to make sure that his administration takes off in the best of condition,” he said.
The meeting underscores the importance of collaboration and continuity in Ghana’s governance, setting the tone for a peaceful and effective change of administration.
