The statue of former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, located at the Effia Nkwanta Regional Hospital roundabout in Sekondi, Western Region, has been completely vandalized. This marks the second instance of damage to the monument, which was initially erected to honor the former president’s contributions during his tenure.
The first act of vandalism occurred on December 16, 2024, when unidentified individuals damaged the statue’s leg. Although authorities promptly repaired the monument, no arrests were made, leaving questions about the motives behind the act unanswered.
The latest incident, which resulted in the complete toppling of the statue, occurred less than a week after Akufo-Addo left office.
The statue was originally unveiled during Akufo-Addo’s presidency as a symbol of his administration’s commitment to enhancing healthcare and infrastructure in the Western Region. Its prominent location near the Effia Nkwanta Regional Hospital was intended to serve as a lasting reminder of the government’s efforts to expand access to medical care and resources in underserved communities.
