The Government of Ghana has initiated a recall of all Diplomatic and Service Passports issued under the previous administration. This directive, conveyed in a letter from the Office of the President, is part of efforts to ensure the proper use and administration of official travel documents in line with national and international standards.
In the letter addressed to the Chief Director of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and signed by Dr. Callistus Mahama, Secretary to the President, the government emphasized that the recall is designed to “safeguard the country’s reputation and maintain the integrity of our diplomatic engagements.”
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has been directed to issue a public notice to all holders of Diplomatic and Service Passports, informing them to return the documents for verification and re-issuance where applicable. A compliance deadline of January 24, 2025, has been set for affected individuals to adhere to the directive. Furthermore, the Ministry has been tasked with conducting a thorough review of all returned passports to ensure they meet current eligibility criteria.
The government has assured that cooperation and prompt action in this exercise will significantly contribute to maintaining the credibility and efficiency of the country’s passport system.
