Ghana Football Association (GFA) President Kurt Okraku has officially filed his nomination to contest for a position on the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Executive Committee.
The elections, scheduled for March 2025, present Okraku as a strong contender, with the GFA President running unopposed to represent WAFU Zone B. This marks a major milestone in his administrative career and solidifies his standing as a key figure in African football governance.
This bid comes after Okraku’s decision in 2021 to withdraw from the CAF Executive Committee elections in favor of fostering unity within WAFU Zone B. At the time, he supported Djibril Hamidou, President of the Niger Football Association, who subsequently secured the position as the sole candidate.
Hamidou is now reportedly pursuing a spot on the FIFA Council, creating a clear path for Okraku to assume the CAF role. Reports indicate that Okraku has garnered unanimous support from WAFU Zone B, making him the frontrunner to secure the position.
This development is expected to enhance Ghana’s influence within African football, furthering opportunities for the country and the region to shape key decisions in the sport. Okraku’s unopposed bid reflects the confidence and trust placed in him by his peers in WAFU Zone B. This development positions him as a key figure in the ongoing governance of African football.
The CAF Executive Committee elections will be closely watched as African football leadership continues to evolve. For Okraku, this opportunity signifies not just personal success but also a chance to contribute to the growth and governance of football across the continent.
Kurt Okraku, in 2019 was elected as GFA’s president after reconvention upon the completion of the work of the FIFA Normalization Committee.
