John Kapi, Head of Public Relations at the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), has addressed the delay in releasing the 2024 WASSCE results attributing it to ongoing investigations into alleged malpractice. He underscored the importance of conducting a thorough and impartial process to safeguard the integrity of the examinations.
This statement comes in response to a one-week ultimatum issued by the National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS), which has demanded the immediate release of all withheld results or threatened nationwide protests. Additionally, NUGS has called for the removal of WAEC Ghana’s Head, accusing the council of unfair treatment toward candidates implicated in malpractice.

During an appearance on Eyewitness News on Tuesday, February 4, 2025, Mr. Kapi reaffirmed WAEC’s commitment to maintaining a credible examination process. He explained that the delay is essential to ensure that only deserving candidates receive their grades.
“We need to sit down and probably bring on board a number of stakeholders to decide on this issue so that we are awarding grades to people who deserve them,” he stated.
Despite this explanation, NUGS and other stakeholders remain dissatisfied, arguing that the prolonged delay is causing unnecessary stress and uncertainty for affected students. NUGS has reiterated its intention to mobilize students nationwide for protests if WAEC fails to meet its demands within the stipulated one-week deadline.
