AfriMass Network and Bluecrest University College to Mark World Press Freedom Day 2025 with Focus on AI and Journalism

AfriMass Network is partnering with Bluecrest University College to host the second edition of the Newsroom Business Initiative – Sustainable Newsroom in celebration of World Press Freedom Day 2025. The event is scheduled for Friday, May 2, 2025, at 10 a.m. at Bluecrest University College campus.

Following the success of last year’s inaugural event at GH Media School, this year’s celebration aims to build on that momentum and highlight the ongoing importance of press freedom in shaping democratic societies.

The first edition of World Press Freedom Day, organized by AfriMass Network and its partners, was a memorable occasion that brought together key figures in the media industry. The event featured prominent personalities such as Kobby Spiky Nkrumah of EIB Digital, Paa Kwesi Asare of TV3, and Emefa Apawu of JoyNews. Their presence underscored the significance of a free and independent press and provided an opportunity to celebrate the achievements of journalists in Ghana.

This year’s event, again hosted in partnership with Bluecrest University College, will provide a platform for media professionals, students, and press freedom advocates to come together under the theme: “Freedom of Expression in the Face of the AI Revolution.”

The one-day event will explore the future of journalism, the transformative power of AI in media, and the intersection between technology and press freedom. Participants will engage with industry experts, media professionals, and policymakers to discuss the evolving media landscape in the digital age.

Key topics for discussion will include how AI is being used in newsrooms to automate content, the potential of AI to improve fact-checking, the challenges of AI-driven journalism, and the ethical dilemmas it presents in terms of authenticity and accountability.

Attendees will also have the chance to participate in workshops and training sessions aimed at enhancing professional skills, alongside networking opportunities designed to foster collaboration and innovation in the media industry.

AfriMass Network remains committed to supporting press freedom and empowering journalists through various initiatives, including this annual collaboration with Bluecrest University College. By organizing events like World Press Freedom Day, AfriMass seeks to foster a media environment where professionalism, integrity, and independence are upheld.

All media professionals, students, and advocates of press freedom are invited to join this important celebration of the press’ role in promoting a more informed and democratic society.
