Vice President Bawumia will launch Ghana’s first digital music streaming platform in November, addressing royalty issues and providing new revenue opportunities for creatives.
Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia is set to launch Ghana’s first-ever digital music streaming platform in November, aimed at revolutionizing the country’s creative industry. The platform will address key challenges in the sector, including tracking, collecting, and distributing royalties and revenues for artists, film producers, and content creators.

During an industry dialogue with the arts and creative community, Dr. Bawumia assured participants of his commitment to revitalizing the industry if he becomes president. The platform, developed in collaboration with the Ghana Music Rights Organization (GHAMRO), Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA), and music producers, aims to resolve the issue of inadequate royalties that artists have faced for years. Musicians have received less than GH¢ 1,000 in royalties, while their works are valued at more than GH¢ 10,000.

The platform, backed by the government’s digitalization agenda, will introduce transparency into the royalty system, ensuring fair compensation for creatives. It will serve not only musicians but also film producers, podcasters, and other content creators, allowing them to distribute and monetize their works. This initiative is also expected to boost the intellectual property rights of creators, giving them legal protection and a centralized space to manage their earnings.

Additionally, Bawumia promised to facilitate financing for musicians and content creators through the Development Bank of Ghana, offering support to boost their work. The platform is expected to attract local and international audiences, providing significant opportunities for Ghanaian artists to reach the global market.
The launch of this digital music streaming platform marks a milestone in the transformation of Ghana’s creative industry, creating new revenue streams, supporting talent growth, and promoting local content on the world stage.
