The Egyptian Olympic Committee has announced that Mohamed Ibrahim El-Sayed, an Olympic bronze medalist in wrestling, is under investigation by the sport’s governing body following allegations of sexual misconduct in Paris.

French prosecutors reported on Friday that a 26-year-old Egyptian Olympic wrestler, whose identity was initially withheld, was arrested on charges of sexual assault. The athlete was apprehended early Friday morning after allegedly groping a woman from behind near a Paris café, according to a statement from the Paris prosecutor’s office.

Subsequently, the Egyptian Olympic Committee confirmed that El-Sayed would be the subject of an official investigation. The committee’s statement indicated that he could face disciplinary actions, including a potential ban from both domestic and international competitions, due to what they described as “irresponsible behavior.” This incident occurred just hours after El-Sayed had completed his Olympic competition and was preparing to return home.

El-Sayed, a Greco-Roman wrestler competing in the 67-kilogram category, participated in a match in Paris on Wednesday, where he was defeated 9-0 by Azerbaijan’s Hasrat Jafarov. El-Sayed is a prominent figure in the sport, holding titles as a five-time African champion and a two-time under-23 world champion.
