Expect more coups – Former aviation minister of Nigeria warns

Nigerian Former Aviation Minister, Femi Fani-Kayode says he is not shocked  about the military take over in Gabon.

Ali Bongo has been instated for the third time after winning the recent election held in the country. This brings his run into  fifty years of ruling as a president into office.

Reports coming in this week, is that army officers in Gabon have announced seizure of power after the third term re-election of President Ali Bongo on Saturday.

The former Aviation Minister on X formerly Twitter wrote that, we should not be surprised at the sudden developments but rather, we should expect more of this from especially Francophone countries across West Africa and East Africa.

He added that it is sad to see another fall of a president in the person of Ali Bongo losing power in the process of coup.

“It appears that the warning I gave in my last essay, titled ‘Does Killing Nigerien Babies Bring Glory To Our Name?’, was prophetic.

“I am not surprised that this has happened and frankly we should expect more coups in the Francophone countries of West and Central Africa for the reasons I stated in that essay.

It’s like coup has become a normal thing on the continent and I suggest African leaders including world leaders should find a way of calming such situations.
