The newly confirmed Mayor of Tema, Ebi Bright, has pledged her unwavering commitment to the entire municipality, acknowledging the significant responsibility of her new role amidst recent political tensions.
Speaking on Eyewitness News on Citi FM shortly after her confirmation on Friday, May 9, Bright addressed public concerns and expectations surrounding her appointment.
She emphasised that although her political efforts had previously focused on Tema Central, her dedication has always extended across the broader Tema area.
“Over the years, it’s been difficult for me to decouple Tema Central from Tema in general,” she said. “But the only reason why it was possible was because it was important to situate the area politically—so we could be heard instead of being marginalised.”
A former parliamentary candidate, Bright clarified that her past focus on Tema Central was strategic, but her loyalty has consistently been to the entire city.
“My commitment has always been to Tema as a whole, of which Tema Central, of course, is a part,” she noted. “So I am very honoured, but I feel the weight of the challenge.”
Responding to the public scrutiny that surrounded her nomination and confirmation, Bright acknowledged the heightened expectations now resting on her leadership.
“With all the brouhaha surrounding my nomination and confirmation, I think there will be a lot of expectation from myself and the comrades I will be working with,” she said adding “We are very elated.”
