In a major political development, former two-term Member of Parliament for Lower West Akim, Gifty Klenam, has switched allegiance from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Klenam, who represented her constituency in the Fourth and Fifth Parliaments of the Fourth Republic, later served as Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Export Promotion Centre (GEPC) under the Akufo-Addo-Bawumia administration. She publicly announced her defection on Thursday morning.

Her move became official when she received her NDC membership card in the Anlo Constituency of the Volta Region, marking a new phase in her political journey.

Addressing the press, Klenam outlined her reasons for the switch, highlighting ideological alignment and trust in the NDC’s policy direction as key motivators.

“Upon consultation with my family, I decided to join the NDC because it aligns with my values and vision for mother Ghana,” she stated.

She also voiced strong support for the NDC’s 2024 manifesto, calling it the most promising plan for Ghana’s future progress.

Having carefully examined the party’s policies, Klenam expressed confidence in former President John Dramani Mahama’s leadership to drive national development and prosperity.

She further affirmed her commitment to engaging with the NDC’s grassroots, empowering local communities, and creating opportunities to curb the large-scale migration of Ghanaian youth in search of better prospects abroad.
