Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the Presidential Candidate of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), has responded to former President John Dramani Mahama’s recent pledge to reset Ghana.
Mr. Mahama, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has called on voters to back him in the upcoming elections, arguing that Ghana urgently needs a fresh start to tackle its current difficulties. During the NDC’s manifesto launch, Mr. Mahama painted a grim picture of the nation’s state, declaring, “Ghana is bleeding, and its soul is crying for change.”
He vowed to implement drastic measures to overhaul the country’s governance if elected.
However, on Sunday, August 25, in a media interaction, Dr. Bawumia dismissed his opponent’s proposal for a reset.
According to Dr. Bawumia, Ghana does not need a reset but an upgrade. “I represent the future. Ghana needs an upgrade, not a reset,” he said.
He laid out his vision for the nation, emphasizing 14 key commitments he plans to pursue if elected in the 2024 elections.
These include job creation, comprehensive tax reforms, and transforming Ghana into a world-class digital economy. His initiatives also aim to reduce the cost of living, expand public infrastructure, improve healthcare access, support affirmative action for women and girls, and enhance educational opportunities for all.
Additionally, Dr. Bawumia pledged to ensure good governance, protect the nation’s borders, and maintain neighborhood safety.
