Indiana Jones’s Temple of Doom hat sold for $630,000 at auction, surpassing previous sales of similar memorabilia, including items from Star Wars and Harry Potter.
A hat worn by actor Harrison Ford in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom has sold for over half a million dollars at auction. The iconic brown felt fedora, specifically crafted for the 1984 film, fetched $630,000 (GH¢9,846,900.00) in Los Angeles on Thursday.
The fedora was used in several key scenes, including the memorable moment where Indiana Jones, along with nightclub singer Willie Scott and his young friend Short Round, escapes from a sabotaged plane by jumping into an inflatable raft. The hat was also utilized during additional photography at George Lucas’s visual effects facilities and worn by Ford’s stunt-double, Dean Ferrandini, who passed away last year. The hat came from Ferrandini’s personal collection and was sold with unpublished photos of the stuntman wearing the costume on location.
Created by the Herbert Johnson Hat Company in London, the fedora featured a “more tapered” crown than the original hat from Raiders of the Lost Ark and included Indiana Jones’s gold monogrammed initials “IJ” on the inside lining.
Other movie memorabilia auctioned included an imperial scout trooper helmet from Star Wars: Return of the Jedi, which sold for $315,000 (GH¢4,923,450.00), a light-up wand used by Daniel Radcliffe in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban that fetched $53,550 (GH¢831,144.20), and a suit worn by Daniel Craig in the 2012 James Bond film Skyfall, which sold for $35,000 (GH¢543,231.50).
Brandon Alinger, Propstore’s chief operating officer, expressed pride in connecting fans with these historic pieces, noting the hat fetched more than double the amount of another Temple of Doom fedora auctioned in 2021, which sold for $300,000 ((GH¢4,656,270).
