Julien Alfred from the small Island nation of Saint Lucia continues to shine at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. She has become the first athlete at Paris 2024 to win two medals since the start of the athletics competition on August 1, further solidifying her status among the elite in track and field.

Alfred won gold in the women’s 100m race, making history as the first Saint Lucian to achieve an Olympic medal with a national record of 10.72 seconds. She has now added a silver medal in the women’s 200m race, setting another record as the first from her country to win two medals at the Olympics.

Alfred finished the 200m race with an impressive time of 22.08 seconds, behind the U.S.’s Gabrielle Thompson, who won the race with a time of 21.83 seconds. Brittany Brown from the U.S. claimed bronze with a time of 22.20 seconds.

The achievements of the Saint Lucian athlete have sent a second wave of jubilation through her home country.
