Kasoa-Winneba, other key road projects stalled over unpaid contractor arrears – Afenyo-Markin

The Member of Parliament for Effutu, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has raised concerns over the stalled dualisation of the Winneba-Kasoa highway, describing the delay as a significant inconvenience for commuters.

The MP, while speaking in parliament on Wednesday, July 2, noted that several contractors working on key road projects across the country have abandoned their sites due to outstanding payments owed by the government.

His remarks followed Parliament’s approval of a $360 million financing agreement between the Government of Ghana and the International Development Association (IDA) of the World Bank Group to support the country’s post-crisis economic recovery and long-term resilience.

Afenyo-Markin, who also serves as the Minority Leader, called on the government to urgently prioritise the payment of arrears owed to road contractors to ensure the resumption and timely completion of vital infrastructure projects.

“The Kasoa-Winneba road, the contractor has left the site, and it is making motorists suffer. Mr Speaker, I would like you to let them know that the contractors are working on major roads, that needs to be completed,” he said.
