Ordinary Ghana passport holders to enjoy 90 days visa waiver in South Africa

The South African high commission in Ghana has announced on October 13, 2023 in a media release that there has been a new development on Ghanaians with ordinary passport when they enter South Africa.

The released letter stated that, the government of Ghana and the South African government have come into terms to implement the waiver for visa exemption for ordinary passport holders for a period of 90 days  per year which takes effect  from the beginning of  November 2023.

The released letter  also stated that  anyone with an ordinary Ghana passport who desires to over stay  the said period which is  90 days would have to apply for a visa to enter the Republic of South Africa.

In confirmation, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Ghana, in a letter, has written to the media to “inform the general public that the Republic of Ghana and the Republic of South Africa have entered into an Agreement on a visa waiver regime for holders of ordinary passport”.

The foreign affairs ministry led by Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey said, “The Agreement takes effect from 1st November 2023”.

The news comes after Ghana was put on an e-Visa list by South Africa. The announcement was made in a letter by the South African High Commission to the media, dated Thursday, September 28.
