Petit: Guardiola and Amorim Among Season’s Biggest Disappointments

Arsenal legend Emmanuel Petit thinks Pep Guardiola and Ruben Amorim are the most disappointing managers of the season. Ruben Amorim and Pep Guardiola have been taunted as the most disappointing managers of the season by former Arsenal and Chelsea legend Emmanuel Petit.

The two Manchester-based managers have both been named among the Premier League’s most disappointing managers of the season, as Man Utd prepare to host Man City in “the derby of flops”.

Both bosses have suffered a poor run of form in the 2024/25 season, and the former Premier League midfielder believes they are in a group of the worst-performing bosses in the top flight, along with Tottenham’s Ange Postecoglou. United are set to suffer their worst-ever Premier League campaign, requiring 22 points from their last eight matches to avoid their lowest points tally in the competition, while the Blues’ run of four consecutive titles is set to come to an end.

Petit suggests both managers could have done better to turn the fortunes of their team around, but softly admits that Amorim can be exonerated from United’s troubles. The 54-year-old told pokerfirma.com how difficult he finds it putting Guardiola in a category of “most disappointing managers of the season,” but it has come to that. “It’s hard for me to say that the most disappointing manager this season so far has been Pep Guardiola, but I think he’s in that group.

“I would put Ange Postecoglou in that group, even if I think he’s not the only one responsible for the situation at Spurs.

“I would point the finger at Amorim at Manchester United, but I think he follows the path of so many managers that failed at Manchester United.

“Is Amorim responsible for the mess at Manchester United? I don’t think he is – the problems run a lot deeper than the dugout.”

United will host City at Old Trafford in the Premier League on Sunday, with the Red Devils hoping to beat their city-rivals second time this season.
