The Director-General of the National Lottery Authority (NLA), Sammy Awuku, has officially stepped down from his role, effective January 13, 2025.
In a letter addressed to President John Dramani Mahama, Awuku explained that his resignation was necessitated by his election as the Member of Parliament for Akuapem North.
“In the light of this new responsibility, I wish to focus my efforts on serving as a Member of Parliament,” he wrote.

Awuku’s resignation brings an end to his leadership at the NLA, a position he has held since August 2021. During his tenure, he was instrumental in driving reforms and ensuring the Authority’s operational efficiency.
He also urged the swift appointment of a successor to facilitate a seamless transition. “I kindly request the appointment of a replacement to ensure a smooth transition and proper handover of responsibilities,” Awuku noted in his letter.
