Seven years after embracing the palmwine highlife genre, Ghanaian band Kwan Pa is now stepping into the film industry. They will premiere their debut movie, Sweet Palmwine, on October 26, 2024, at Silverbird Cinemas in Accra.

In an interview on Joy FM’s Showbiz A-Z with Kwame Dadzie, band leader Asah Nkansah shared that the movie is a creative way to promote and preserve palmwine highlife music. Instead of producing individual music videos for their six-track EP, they chose to weave the stories from the songs into a full-length movie. This allows audiences to enjoy palmwine music even without a live performance.

Asah explained that the movie follows the style of Egbert Adjesu’s 1970 classic I Told You So, blending drama and music. Sweet Palmwine is a romantic comedy, rated “Universal,” making it suitable for all ages.

Produced by Wahala Entertainment, the film features top Ghanaian actors like Aaron Adatsi, Pascaline Edwards, Fred Amugi, and Willie Chambers. There will be two screenings at both the Accra Mall and Westhills Mall locations of Silverbird Cinemas, with showings at 7 PM and 9 PM.
