Titus Glover Accuses NDC of Political Witch-Hunt Over Wontumi Arrest

Former Greater Accra Regional Minister Titus Glover has accused the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) of launching a politically motivated and violent witch-hunt against Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

His accusation follows Wontumi’s arrest by officials from the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) on Tuesday, May 27. The arrest took place shortly after Wontumi reported to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service in Accra, in compliance with his bail conditions.

The incident sparked protests from NPP supporters and party executives, who gathered at EOCO’s premises to demand his immediate release.

Speaking to Channel One News’ Umaru Sanda Amadu, Titus Glover criticised the arrest and accused the government of abusing state power. “If they have anything incriminating, they should prepare the charges and come and put it across, he will come out with his lawyers but not this Rambo-style,” he said.

Glover further claimed that the NDC is using state institutions to intimidate political opponents, stating that such actions have become a pattern since the party came into power. He added that the opposition will not be silenced by what he described as “targeted and unjustified arrests aimed at weakening the NPP’s leadership.”

EOCO has not yet released an official statement regarding the arrest.
