Nana Kwame Bediako, leader of the political movement New Force, has committed to revitalizing Ghana’s railway system if elected as the next president.

Bediako unveiled an ambitious plan to construct a railway network spanning over 8,000 kilometers. Central to this initiative is the utilization of Ghana’s iron ore resources, particularly from the Eastern Region, to produce steel domestically.

He made this announcement during the policy launch on September 1, stating, “Our vision is to develop a comprehensive railway network exceeding 8,000 kilometers that is 1.5 million tonnes of steel.”

Bediako underscored that this approach could save the nation billions of dollars that might otherwise go toward foreign contracts.

He emphasized the strategic importance of developing the Eastern and Western corridors and extending the railway to Ghana’s borders with Togo, Burkina Faso, and Ivory Coast. He noted that once the railway lines reach these borders, the respective neighboring governments would be responsible for continuing the project.

Bediako also expressed confidence in the abilities of Ghanaians, asserting that they have the skills, resources, and industrial capacity needed to be contracted by neighboring countries for this ambitious project.

“This vision represents a new transportation and logistical pathway, moving beyond the colonial roads built for us. We are creating our own path to distribute our goods,” he stated.
